Genesis unveiled the GV80 Coupe Concept in New York. Four seats, sleek lines, the GV80 Coupe Concept adds a new facet to the Genesis brand and anticipates a new model coming in the near future. According to the statement, the GV80 Coupe underlines the duality of the Genesis brand by showcasing the contrasts that coexist within the Athletic and Elegance parameters of the Genesis design philosophy. Inspired by the X Speedium Coupe Concept presented in New York last year, the GV80 Coupe Concept combines the practicality of an SUV with the dynamism of a sports car. It is a visual statement that shares aspirations for a more emotional and performance-oriented model for the future.
“In the beginning, the Genesis brand started out creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80 and G90 models,” explained Luc Donckerwolke, Group Chief Creative Officer. “Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the boundaries with more emotional cars that elevate the performance and dynamic attributes of Genesis.” The front fascia sports the twin grille surrounded by the four lights. The rear-wheel-drive platform forms the basis for the long bonnet and the right proportions, emphasised by a parabolic ‘anti-climbing’ line. The muscular flanks contrast the car’s elegant coupé silhouette.
To further enhance its driving dynamics, the car’s optimised aerodynamic fluidity has a rear spoiler on the tail that provides increased downforce at speed. The seamless headlamps follow the Two Lines motif of all Genesis cars. The model’s bold design is also emphasised by the Magma exterior colour, inspired by the brand’s distinctly Korean ethos. “The colour symbolises the confident and passionate attitude of Korea. There is a calm, efficient, disciplined and humble first impression soon contrasted by an extroverted, high-performance attitude,’ explained Luc Donckerwolke. The three-spoke steering wheel plays an important role in emphasising the sportiness of the interior, which contrasts black Nappa leather and suede with double Scottish stitching, orange piping and carbon fibre weaves on the functional surfaces. Four wraparound seats provide extra body support when cornering, contributing to passenger safety and comfort, while the carbon fibre backrest accentuates the model’s extrovert character.
