Genesis unveiled the Neolun, a large electric SUV, and at the same time unveiled a new series of high-performance cars and equipment, the Genesis Magma, for the brand. Neolun is intended to represent the highest level of Genesis hospitality behind the wheel with a number of advanced features, including swivelling front seats, centre-opening doors with electric side steps and an innovative heating system. The name ‘Neolun’ is a combination derived from the Greek ‘neo’, meaning new, and the Latin ‘moon’. “The Neolun concept was inspired by the characteristic moon-shaped porcelain vases of Korea,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “It is the ultimate expression of timeless design and fine craftsmanship.”
The exterior of the Neolun revolves around the concept of ‘minimalist design’ characterised by clean, refined lines that intentionally eliminate all superfluous details. The most striking feature of the exterior is the design of the centrally opening doors that exclude the need for B-pillars connecting the body and roof of the car. Compared to conventional car structures, this scheme ensures much more open interior spaces and maximises the practicality of passenger entry and exit. The headlamps integrated into the bodywork blend perfectly with the front and rear of the car, conveying strength and opulence thanks to the almost imperceptible gaps.
In terms of the interior, the Neolun Concept is a modern interpretation of the distinctive Korean hospitality culture defined by a spacious interior that perfectly combines comfort and relaxation. Inspired by the so-called ‘ondol’, a traditional Korean heating system that uses direct heat transfer under the floors, the concept’s radiant heating system spreads heat efficiently throughout the vehicle by means of thermal films applied to the dashboard, door trim, floor, seat backs and sides of the dashboard. The swivelling function of the front seats maximises space and practicality inside the passenger compartment, while the large adjustable screen and flexible display that unfolds from the ceiling of the rear seats ensure a stimulating sensory experience. Cashmere in a ‘Royal Indigo’ shade blends with vintage-inspired ‘Purple Silk’ leather, which has been naturally dyed with organic pigments, creating a deeply relaxing atmosphere. To complete the luxurious look, there is real wood flooring in a dark colour.
