BYD had said that 2025 would be a year full of news. Among the most interesting there is the Dolphin Surf, a compact electric car that, with a starting price of less than 20,000 euros, presents itself as one of the least expensive zero-emission car on sale in Europe. The Dolphin Surf, with its 3.99 meters in length, completes the BYD range downwards, entering the heart of the A Segment.
The car has the shape of a city crossover. The front, redesigned compared to the BYD Seagull from which it derives to better comply with European safety standards, is characterized by a short and sloping bonnet and by headlights with a fairly aggressive cut. Together with the design of the front bumper, they underline the stylistic link with other models of the Shenzen brand. The side has straight lines and sharp edges that give personality and convey a reassuring sense of robustness. Among the most original elements there are the “suspended” D-pillar and the rear lights gathered inside a dark band, with a transparent finish, that runs under the rear window. In person, the generous dimensions of the roof spoiler are striking, which houses the third brake light in the central part.
Getting into the car, you discover a simple but modern and quite refined interior. The attention is captured by the 10″1 inch diagonal central touchscreen which, like on all BYDs, can rotate and be fixed in a horizontal or vertical position. In general, like on other models of the brand, the upholstery has sinuous lines and color contrasts that give movement to the environment. The habitability, strictly for 4 people, is guaranteed by a generous wheelbase for the category (it is 2.5 meters), while for the load, a large tailgate and a low threshold help to fill the 308 liters of capacity of the compartment.
The Dolphin Surf is characterized by a good standard equipment right from the attack version and shows off some technologies that are rare to see on competitors in the same category. Above all, the opening of the doors via smartphone (or smartwatch). Really convenient, giving the possibility of sharing the “key” with other people by sending it almost as if it were a Whatsapp message.
