BMW presented the new iX3 in Munich, an electric SUV based on the Neue Klasse X concept car. A completely revamped design language gives the car a characterful look that faithfully reflects the technological advances made by the new model. The iX3 is tasked with launching BMW’s new design language, which will then be adopted across the brand’s entire model range. The design aims to be timeless, while capturing the spirit of contemporary style.

The vertical front end and well-defined surfaces give it a striking presence on the road. The BMW kidney grille and twin headlights, both distinctive design elements, visually dominate the center stage. The vertical arrangement of the sculpted grille is reminiscent of the Neue Klasse of the 1960s. A new light signature takes on the role previously played by chrome, giving the vehicle an aura of quality and refinement. Viewed from the side, large surfaces interrupted by a few precise lines create a characterful appearance. Flush glass surfaces and door handles are further distinctive features of the side profile. The rear also has a powerful and athletic silhouette. The rear lights, which extend well beyond the center of the rear, represent a horizontal interpretation of the characteristic “L” shape.

The interior design of the iX3 sets new standards in terms of modernity and digital experience. The interior stands out for its clean and minimalist design, which provides the ideal backdrop for the digital experience. The cabin is focused on the driver and comfort for all passengers on board. Designed specifically for electric vehicles, the vehicle architecture offers extremely generous space in all five seats. The lines of the “floating” instrument panel continue directly into the large door trim panels, creating an enveloping effect for passengers.

Another notable new feature in the horizontally arranged cockpit is the new Panoramic iDrive system, based on the newly developed Operating System X. This system integrates display, geometry, and light and sound design into a holistic experience. This also includes new driving sounds, sound effects, and acoustic signals created specifically for the Neue Klasse with the HypersonX soundscape. The elegant, minimalist seats stand out for their exceptional comfort on long journeys, their sporty character, and their wide range of adjustments. The steering wheel and center console between the driver’s and front passenger’s seats, with storage compartments and controls, also feature a completely new design. The rear seat offers a unique, sofa-like surface.
