Volkswagen presented its compact electric SUV at the IAA Mobility show in Munich. It is called ID. Cross Concept and has been designed for both city driving and long journeys. The crossover, painted in Urban Jungle green, follows a new, well-defined and appealing design language. “We call it Pure Positive. It is based on the three design pillars of ‘Stability, Friendliness and Secret Ingredient’ and will distinguish every new Volkswagen in the future,” explains Andreas Mindt, Head of Design at Volkswagen. “Here we focus on pure, powerful linearity, visual stability and a positive, friendly charisma for the cars. Even the powerful lines and surfaces are pure and well-defined, outlining an SUV that doesn’t follow trends but sets them, transferring the brand’s identity into the future.”

The prototype is 4,156 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,601 mm. Considering the width and height of the car, which measure 1,839 mm and 1,588 mm respectively, it can be said that its dimensions are on par with the current T-Cross. The same cannot be said for the prototype’s wheel and tire combination: for this concept, the designers have developed a 21-inch alloy wheel called Balboa. An innovative configuration makes the five-seat interior much more spacious than average, with a trunk capacity of 450 liters. Added to this is a 25-liter frunk under the front hood. The interior of the ID. Cross Concept has been designed as an oasis of well-being that impresses with the quality of its materials, including those used for the fabric-covered surfaces.

The cockpit has been designed with well-thought-out ergonomics and intuitive controls, focusing the driver’s attention on the road. Volkswagen focuses on harmonious interaction between displays with simple and intuitive menu structures, combined with natural language voice controls and buttons for direct functions. The right mix of technology and safety. The multifunction steering wheel with clear button controls has been completely redesigned. The two central displays are also located on a single visual axis: the digital instrument panel (28 cm / 11 inches) and the central touch display of the infotainment system (diagonal: 33 cm/13 inches).
