20 students from the Škoda Academy of Design imagined what a spider version of the Bohemian manufacturer’s compact sedan Scala could look like. During construction, the car will be produced in a single model, the students will receive support from the design team, research and development engineers and designers. The model, at the moment still without name, is the seventh concept car created by the students of the academy.

The students met the brand’s head of design, Oliver Stefani, during a visit to the style centre: “Despite the increasing use of computers and simulations, design is still an essential part of the work of automotive designers. At every turn, an idea turns into something real. A sketch is the first of many steps on the long and exciting journey to a new car,” says Stefani. The Scala spider is born from a sketch on a blank sheet of paper. The creation of a ‘student car’ has been a tradition in Škoda since 2014. Since then, students at the Mladá Boleslav vocational school have designed and built six concept cars themselves.
