The Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept is a reimagining of the Plein Air (1969) and JP4 (1981) versions of the original Renault 4. It reinterprets the fun side of these models in a carefree and playful spirit, adding a touch of adventure thanks to its all-wheel drive. The name pays direct homage to the 1980s JP4, but, being equipped with an electric powertrain, the Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept has all the characteristics of an elegant and modern beach buggy, both in terms of its appearance and its features designed for sports and leisure.
Aesthetically, it stands out for its character, which is both open and adventurous. In addition to the two minimalist doors that open in the traditional way, there is a perforated roof designed to maximize rigidity and a rear tailgate without a soft top that lowers like the bed of a pickup truck to make it easier to load items into the vehicle. Inside, the bucket seats evoke the legendary petal seats with integrated headrests found on various Renault models from the 1970s. They are upholstered in a fabric blend featuring a crepe base and diagonal mesh sections to create an effect that is both elegant and sporty. The interior door panels, the edges of the cargo area, and the dashboard are also covered in fabric. The dashboard features a handle on the passenger side to hold onto when driving on rough roads. The floating center console is a brand-new feature, lending robustness and refinement to the fresh, airy cabin.
“Halfway between a pickup truck and a beach buggy, the Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept was designed with no boundaries between the exterior and the interior. This aspect is accentuated by the stark contrast between the Emerald Green body color and the vibrant orange of the interior upholstery. With its graphic styling, orange door frames, and distinctive rear window that extends backward, the Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept has a profile all its own in the automotive landscape,” said Jean-Philippe Salar, Director of Advanced Design at Renault.
