Dynamic, powerful and with optimised aerodynamics: with the world premiere of the ID concept car. Aero in China, Volkswagen offers a sneak preview of the brand’s first all-electric saloon. The future production model, based on the MEB platform, will be part of the upper saloon segment. The electric sedan will be produced for Europe at the Volkswagen plant in Emden, Germany, and the series version is scheduled to debut in 2023. The design of the ID. Aero applies the design language of the ID. family for the first time to a saloon in the upper segment. The aerodynamically designed front and roof sections allow the wind to flow optimally. The slightly retracted rear end with a lip spoiler guides the airflow. The sporty 22-inch two-tone wheels are designed in the style of a turbine and integrated flush into the wheel arches. The classic door handles are replaced by illuminated tactile surfaces that further reduce aerodynamic drag.

At the top of the silhouette, the characteristic line and sloping roof design towards the rear define the design. The massive shoulder section of the ID. Aero makes the appearance of the all-electric sedan more compact and gives it dynamism. The prototype ID. Aero is painted in Polar Light Blue Metallic, a light metallic shade whose colour pigments create a golden shimmer when the light hits them. The gloss black roof contrasts with the bodywork. The front end is characterised by honeycomb structures typical of the ID family. The front bumper is divided horizontally into two parts, defining the style of the ID. Aero. Another unmistakable feature of the ID. Aero is the narrow light strip that extends to the left and right of the illuminated logo, passes above the innovative IQ LED matrix headlights. Light, and then runs through the front section, wings and side sections. The light strip continues visually into the rear section, which features an impressive dark strip of light and LED rear light clusters with a honeycomb structure.
