Lexus has announced the call for entries for the Lexus Design Award 2023, the competition that since 2013 has aimed to discover, empower and encourage the next generation of creatives. Mentoring remains a key aspect of the award: the four winners will be mentored by leading figures from the world of design. Entries for the Lexus Design Award 2023 will be accepted until 16 October 2022. Applicants will have to put into practice with their concept the three key principles of the Japanese premium brand: anticipate, innovate and fascinate. Design must anticipate global societal challenges, imagine new ways to achieve a sustainable future and seamlessly improve everyone’s happiness. Lexus seeks eye-catching, insightful and original designs that honour both form and function by offering viable solutions to accelerate the arrival of a brighter future for humanity in a variety of scenarios and situations.

A jury of design experts will select four winners based on evaluation criteria from leading creatives active in various disciplines. Each winner will be awarded a research and development budget of up to 3 million Japanese yen (approximately 21,000 euros) as a design grant to cover not only the construction of the prototypes, but also other relevant expenses involved in refining the concept and design and supporting the creative development of the individual. In spring 2023, the four winners will reveal their progress to judges and mentors by presenting their finished work for review. “Over the past ten years, environmental and sustainability issues have increased along with the need for solutions. With the Lexus Design Award, we welcomed and rewarded creatives who apply the power of design to the challenges of building a better environment for all,” said Simon Humphries, Head of Toyota & Lexus Global Design.
