Opel shows at IAA Mobility in Munich how it will face the future with its new Opel Experimental concept. With an ultra-modern design, the Opel Experimental offers a preview of the style that the brand will adopt in the coming years. Highlights include state-of-the-art aerodynamic efficiency, spacious, illuminated interior with lightweight seats, and the top-tier head-up display.

“The Experimental offers a more extreme interpretation of our Bold and Pure, Bold and Pure design philosophy. It shapes our vision of the future. Many of the elements of its design and the mindset behind it will be visible in future production vehicles. The exterior design offers optimized aerodynamic performance in combination with a breathtaking silhouette, while the interior provides an immersive and exciting user experience,” added Mark Adams, Vice President Design.

One of the most eye-catching things about the elegant silhouette of the Opel Experimental is the absence of chrome. The addition of illuminated elements and bold contrasting graphics add personality and sophistication to the proportions. At the front, the new illuminated logo stands proudly in the centre of the compass, the guiding element of Opel’s design philosophy. It is flanked by wing headlights that extend on the horizontal axis, while the illuminated central fold adds additional strength. This is then repeated at the rear with the Compass formed by the characteristic brake lights created by the relief lighting technology and the sophisticated transparency of the glass.

If the exterior dimensions place the Opel Experimental in the C-segment, the interior boasts the spaciousness of the D-segment. The steering wheel folds when it is not needed: this is made possible by the steer-by-wire system, which further reduces weight by eliminating mechanical steering components. In addition, the lightweight adaptive seats combine a slim yet durable construction with fabrics with 3D mesh technology. These guarantee high seating comfort while occupying a small space. The detox approach continues with the Pure Experience. Drivers can tailor information to their needs on the slim Tech Bridge, a new interpretation of the Pure Panel seen in current Opel models. Instead of conventional screens, information or entertainment is presented using augmented projection technology supported by artificial intelligence and natural voice control. The floating, transparent Pure Pad is located in front of the front armrest. It can be configured according to the driver’s personal preferences, thus allowing immediate access to the most frequently used controls.
