Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro’s GFG Style will continue to collaborate with Hyundai Motor on new projects in the future. This was confirmed to Auto&Design by SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai & Genesis Global Design, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the new plant in Ulsan (South Korea) dedicated to electric cars: “We will certainly continue our collaboration, especially on concept cars. Giugiaro knows the essence of the Hyundai brand, because with the 1976 Pony and the Sonata he collaborated in the creation of our history”.

The first product of the partnership between GFG Style and Hyundai was the reconstruction of the Pony Coupé, a concept car presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1974, which was lost, and faithfully reconstructed using the same methodology as at the time: pencil, shape plan and hand-beating of the aluminium plates. The model was unveiled in May 2023 at an event on Lake Como. “The rebirth of the Pony Coupe Concept is a historic moment for Hyundai, as it represents not only our beginnings, but also our commitment to the future with new dreams to be realised,” said Lee. “It is an exercise from 50 years ago, but when I look at it today, it is still modern and harmonious. Dimensions aside, which have grown considerably in five decades, this model is still relevant today,” said Giorgetto Giugiaro.
