A name known only to BMW designers, but never released. The BMW i16 has been in hiding for four years in the German premium manufacturer’s style centre, but now the first images have been released on social media as a surprise by BMW design chief Domagoj Dukec. The i16 could have been the second model specially made by the M Performance division after the 1978 M1 designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

According to Dukec, the i16 did not come to life due to the schedule changes brought about by the pandemic. The managers of the German brand thus decided to make the XM instead, the super SUV that became the second exclusive model in the M sports range. The i16 was supposed to take advantage of the structure of the i8.
