Milan Design Week 2024 enters the future with Lexus, which brings its innovative and distinctive vision to Milan’s most important cultural event. Unveiled today, ‘Time’ is the name of the installation that stems from the Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst, the concept that testifies to the brand’s desire to maximise the potential offered by electrification and innovation to shape its new idea of mobility. The installation, consisting of two works expressing all the visionary power of Lexus, will be open to the public from 16 to 21 April, available at the Art Point and Art Garden of Superstudio Più in the Tortona area, the most renowned district for design in Milan.

The works on display will be “BEYOND THE HORIZON” by Hideki Yoshimoto/Tangent, an installation inspired by the LF-ZC (Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst) concept car, a new avant-garde electrification model that will enable highly dynamic driving, and “8 minutes and 20 seconds” by Dutch solar designer Marjan van Aubel, where the common theme of time reflects the progress made by Lexus in the design and production of human-centred cars.

With this installation, Marjan van Aubel expresses Lexus’ commitment to mobility innovation, taking up the challenges of electrification and technology, aiming for the coexistence of carbon neutrality and premium quality. Imagine walking alongside: four individual motion sensors bounce and ripple light like water on the base of the installation, which is the car’s EV platform. At unexpected intervals, the installation comes to life in an ephemeral spectacle: light cascades like a melodic crescendo, mirroring the dynamics of the moving car and offering a sensory glimpse into the energy and fluidity of driving. The work utilises solar energy, thanks to organic photovoltaic (OPV) sheets: the energy is stored in integrated batteries and used to operate the work’s display, which in turn creates the illusion of time passing, where the warm tones of dawn give way to cooler tones. The installation also features the natural sounds of piano, string instruments and music boxes, as well as the chirping of birds and the rustling of bamboo.
