The Hyundai Boulder Concept SUV made its debut at the 2026 New York Auto Show. This prototype previews a new platform that will serve as the basis for a midsize pickup truck, scheduled to arrive in 2030. The Boulder concept SUV is more than just a glimpse into Hyundai’s future design direction: it was led by the Design North America team, based in Southern California, and was developed with the goal of meeting the needs of off-road enthusiasts and attracting new customers.
“The Boulder Concept is a true love letter on four wheels to the dynamic, off-road lifestyle that many customers have asked for in our future-oriented research,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center at Hyundai Motor Company. The essence of the Boulder Concept stems from Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design philosophy. Art of Steel transforms the strength and flexibility of steel into a language of sculptural and functional beauty. Inspired by the advanced steel technologies developed by Hyundai Steel (part of the Hyundai Motor Group), the alloy’s natural formability reveals fluid volumes and precise lines that highlight and evoke the distinctive qualities of steel, including its powerful, robust, and timeless nature.
The interior of the Boulder Concept features durable materials for key contact points, including handles and other high-wear areas. Frequently used controls include easily accessible physical knobs and buttons, ensuring safe operation even on rough terrain. The model offers a configurable interior that is designed to adapt to every aspect of outdoor living. An example? There are folding tables perfect for a quick lunch during a break from your off-road adventure.
