At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Smart is unveiling the Concept #2, a model that heralds the return of the compact two-seater that debuted in 1998. Guided by the brand’s design philosophy of “Love, Pure, Unexpected,” the Concept #2 was developed entirely by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team. Adopting a unique approach defined as “Function becomes Fashion,” it elevates the city car beyond mere functionality.
Stripped down to its essence, the pure, compact silhouette becomes the perfect canvas for individuality. This approach takes shape through generous volumes, a distinctive two-tone matte white and warm gold livery, high-quality leather details, and surprising hidden elements that emerge from translucent surfaces. Built on the new proprietary Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform, the upcoming smart #2 will represent the definitive reinterpretation of the two-seater city car.
“We believe that a city car should be more than just a practical solution—it should evoke emotions. Building on the legacy of the fortwo’s iconic design, the Concept #2 translates our strong personality into a new era where ‘Function becomes Fashion.’ It’s not just about smart practicality, but a true extension of personal identity,” said Kai Sieber, Head of Design Smart at Mercedes-Benz.
