Part saloon, part crossover. The fourth model in the family of the French premium brand from the Psa group, the DS 4 combines two architectures in a design with character. The idea of a style that would appeal to both categories of car guided the project from its earliest stages. The model’s dimensions place it in the C segment: 4.40 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and 1.4 metres high.

The DS 4 takes advantage of the Psa group’s Emp2 platform: “When we started work on the creative part, we had a lot of room to manoeuvre to create a new concept. The silhouette is unique in the segment with proportions never seen before. The line is athletic, bold, compact and positioned on very large wheels. It is at the same time an aerodynamic, high-performance and eye-catching design. DS 4 is the first car to embody the styling values expressed by the Aero Sport Lounge concept in the history of our brand,” says Thierry Metroz, head of DS design.

The first thing you notice when you look at the front of the car is the presence of an unprecedented LED light signature, called DS Wings, which starts at the headlights with Matrix technology and moves downwards. The headlamps frame the front grille with progressively sized diamond-pointed beams for added dynamism. The profile is sculptural with some new elements like the handles that are flush with the bodywork. The relationship between the body and the large-diameter wheels (rims are available up to 20 inches) has been directly inherited from the DS Aero Sport Lounge concept. At the rear, the mudguards reveal a bold design with curves and angles on the body that highlight the C-pillar, marked by a glossy black tip inlaid with the brand’s logo.

The interior of the new DS 4 follows a fluid and ergonomic digital course designed by the Métroz team following the idea of intuitiveness of each element in terms of style and function. Instruments are grouped in three zones of interaction and the Guilloché Clous de Paris technique, inspired by French haute horlogerie, creates elegant pointed geometric shapes. The structure of the centre console includes the new air conditioning system and DS AIR controls which make the central air vents invisible. The DS Smart Touch system, a 5-inch touchscreen located on the centre console, is an accessible screen that is literally at your fingertips, allowing you to manage the car’s functions without having to keep your hand on the screen in the centre of the dashboard.
