The World Car Awards jury – the award that recognizes automotive professionals who have made a significant impact on the industry – has named Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President for Design and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, World Car Person 2022 of the Year. World Car Awards jury members representing 102 journalists from 33 countries chose Donckerwolke for his role in overseeing innovative new models, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. Among the motivations, jurors also listed models such as the Pony and Grandeur restomod that recently paid homage to Korea’s automotive heritage.
Donckerwolke’s 30-year career as an automotive designer has allowed him to gain experience around the world working for many prestigious brands, including Bentley, Lamborghini, Skoda, Seat and Audi. He joined the Group in 2016 and succeeded Peter Schreyer as CCO in 2017. An automotive enthusiast and collector, Donckerwolke is also very proud of his multicultural background and speaks eight languages. The World Car Person of the Year award is part of the annual World Car Awards, officially launched in January 2004. The award aims to recognize, reward and inspire excellence, leadership and innovation in the automotive industry. Past winners include Akio Toyoda (2021), Carlos Tavares (2020), Sergio Marchionne (2019) and Håkan Samuelsson (2018).
