All it takes is an extra portion of passion, a pinch of enthusiasm and a test vehicle decommissioned after the necessary development tests. The result of this recipe is the Volkswagen ID. Xtreme, an off-road concept car created by the German manufacturer to show the potential of electric four-wheel drive. The prototype was designed and built in Volkswagen’s engineering department by the team led by Andreas Reckewerth. This unique example features a rally set-up 30 millimetres higher than the standard ID.4 and 20 millimetres wider track widths.
The 18-inch wheels with off-road tyres are protected by 3D-printed wheel arch extensions that widen the sides by 50 millimetres and contribute to the offroad look of the ID. Xtreme. The underbody is protected by a particularly robust and fully enclosed aluminium cladding. It extends from the front of the vehicle directly below the number plate and also protects the 77 kWh high-voltage battery in the centre and the rear section. The modified front bumper was specially redesigned to integrate a robust bumper. With its honeycomb structure, the eye-catching roof rack with an extremely high load capacity takes up a special design feature of the ID family. Volkswagen. With the central engraving ‘Made with passion and friends’, the roof rack tells the story of the creation of this concept car.
The interior of the ID. Xtreme is dominated by the elegant yet robust appearance of the grey microfibre fabric upholstery. The front sports seats are decorated with the ID. Xtreme in the upper area, while all seat stitching is orange. In the rear seat, the centre seat has been removed in favour of a large folding pass-through hatch. Recessed seat shells provide secure support for the occupants, even in off-road driving. There is a fixed centre console with armrests for maximum travel comfort in the front seats and additional storage space. The air vents and the lower steering wheel insert are also in a contrasting orange colour. For the infotainment chapter, the designers have customised the display start screen. In addition, there is vehicle-specific ambient lighting and an additional inclinometer.
