With the presentation of the new Urban Suv Concept, Toyota showed a preview of its future strategy for battery electric vehicles in Europe. Presented at the annual Kenshiki forum in Brussels, the concept car hints at a production version of a new electric vehicle scheduled for market launch in 2024. The crossover will be the most compact and affordable of a line-up of six dedicated electric vehicle models and will compete in the B-Suv segment.
The Urban Suv Concept looks like a true sport utility vehicle, with a compact body resting on generous wheel groups and a high driving position. Space is maximised by a flexible cabin that can be easily adapted to prioritise passengers or cargo, as required. Both front- and all-wheel-drive engines will be available. Likewise, the standard model will offer two battery sizes: customers will be able to choose between two options with different capacities to suit their needs and prioritise accessibility or autonomy. The Urban Suv Concept is 4.3 metres long, 1.82 metres wide and 1.62 metres high.
Next to the model displayed at the Kenshiki Forum was the Sport Crossover Concept, seen at Auto Shanghai last April. The model will be an interesting proposition for customers new to electric cars and an elegant alternative to SUVs. It offers maximum comfort combined with the practicality of five doors, a large boot and generous space for rear seat occupants.
