Conceived from the outset for exclusively electric mobility, the iX sees BMW redefine the concept of Sports Activity Vehicle. With its completely new, precise and minimalist design, the BMW iX is the first representative of a generation of cars from the German group to arrive in the future according to new design standards. At the centre of the front is the prominent, vertically developed double kidney grille. Since the car’s electric propulsion system requires only a small amount of cooling air, the grille is completely enclosed. Its role has become digital with intelligent panel function. Camera technology, radar functions and other sensors have been installed behind a transparent surface.

Developed and manufactured at the BMW Group’s LuTZ Technology and Lightweight Design Centre in Landshut, the double-grid grille becomes a technological poster for intelligent mobility. The element has reinvented itself as an innovative, multifunctional high-tech interface dedicated to advanced driver assistance systems with which the BMW iX opens the group’s way to automated level 3 driving. The highlights of the exterior design also include the slimmest light clusters ever fitted to a BMW mass-produced model, flush handles (operated at the touch of a button), frameless side windows, the tailgate – which has no separation joints and extends across the entire rear – as well as the extremely slim rear lights.

A high level of roominess, a blend of high-quality materials, newly developed seats with integrated head restraints and an exceptionally large panoramic glass roof immerse all five seats in the car’s interior in a luxurious living room-like environment. The displays and controls are all reduced to the essentials, further reinforcing the impression of a tidy environment that offers a place to relax. BMW iX technology is used intelligently and only becomes visible when needed. This makes it intuitive to use rather than seem overly complex. The interior design conveys a sense of security and familiarity and generates a new kind of bond between the occupants and the vehicle.
