Hyundai has released three first images of the Ioniq 5, an electric crossover with styling inspired by the Pony designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1974. The car was anticipated by the Hyundai EV 45 concept car unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019. The Ioniq 5 will be the first vehicle built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform exclusively dedicated to zero-emission models.

The car’s most distinctive features include Parametric Pixels, LED headlamps and lights that resemble the pixels in a digital image, and the use of new eco-friendly materials. The Ioniq 5 is the first Hyundai to feature a clamshell front bonnet that spans the width of the car, minimising the gaps between body panels and creating an overall clean, high-tech look.

“Starting with this car, our dedicated EV brand’s range will redefine the relationship between people and their cars, setting a new standard that will serve as the benchmark for all zero-emission design experiences,” says SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center.
