To celebrate the world premiere of the LF-Z Electrified, a battery-powered electric concept car that heralds the brand’s future, Lexus has collaborated with three artists and designers to design the interior. Renowned shoe designer Salehe Bembury, artist Ondrej Zunka and Japanese fashion label Hender Scheme virtually created the interior design.

Kicking off the series is shoe designer Salehe Bembury, whose concept of interior design embraces the future. With his nature-inspired approach, Bembury conceptualised an interior that fuses a futuristic aesthetic with organic materials, all with the characteristic use of bright colours. “I want this car to feel like a seamless blend of car and nature,” says Bembury.

Renouncing traditional notions of automotive design and transporting the Lexus LF-Z Electrified further into the future, Ondrej Zunka’s interior features space-age mechanisms, sci-fi materials and multi-dimensional tones that transcend time and space. “This design of the is purely speculative, so I imagined free associations, pure imagination and creativity,” says Zunka. “I wanted the interiors to feel as if they were not made by humans, but designed by a sophisticated artificial intelligence. I wanted to go beyond all known languages and design concepts and forget what is usually used in automotive interior design.

For the virtual LZ-F Electrified project, Hender Scheme envisions an all-leather interior combined with the concept’s revolutionary technology. The untreated organic material will develop a ‘patina’ over time, making the colour more noticeable and unique to each vehicle. The concept reflects the passage of time and the driver’s relationship with the vehicle.
