“The highest expression of minimalism at its most sophisticated”. Maximillian Missoni, head of Polestar design, identifies the key elements of the Polestar 3, the Swedish brand’s new large SUV (4.9 metres long, 1.96 wide, 1.61 high) built on the SPA2 platform shared with Volvo. “Polestar 3 presents a new aerodynamic profile in which great attention has been paid to maintaining the distinctive features of an SUV, such as the high driving position, but at the same time aerodynamic efficiency has been sought through a series of stylistic and packaging choices,” says Missoni, whom we meet in Copenhagen at the model presentation.

“The roofline that descends quickly at the rear and the rising beltline draw a sporty silhouette, but at the same time we did not give up on interior space. The pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency characterised the project thanks to specific elements: the lower bonnet thanks to the reduced weight of the electric motor allowed us to improve the Cx and so did the aerodynamic wings, the first integrated in the bonnet the other in the rear spoiler,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.

The materials used inside the Polestar 3 were selected for their sustainability credentials, while elevating the aesthetics and tactile side: “Today, luxury is about space and sustainability,” Ingenlath points out. These include MicroTech, leather certified for the correct treatment of animals, wool upholstery or cabin textures from recycled plastic. “We want our interior to be a nice place to be,” says Maximillian Missoni, “a place where you can relax and be surrounded by minimalist beauty.

Lots of technology on board the Polestar 3. From the end of 2023 it will be orderable with a LiDar sensor, while the infotainment system has been developed in collaboration with Google and is controlled from a large 14.5-inch panel positioned in the centre of the dashboard while the digital instrumentation is transmitted by a 9-inch horizontal display. For the powertrain chapter, the Polestar 3 has two engines, one for each axle, for a total power output of 360 kW (490 hp) that can be increased to 380 kW (516 hp) with the Performance Pack. The 110 kWh battery guarantees a range of 610 kilometres.
