At the Guangzhou Auto Show, Aion, the luxury brand of the Gac group, presented its first Hyper GT, a model that represents a new concept in design and aesthetic application for the brand that has already launched its first model: the super sports car Hyper SSR. “As time goes by, design also evolves. We start from the relationship between man and nature, reshape the harmonious symbiotic relationship between man and machine and propose a new aesthetic for our luxury brand Aion,” said Fan Zhang, vice president of design at GAC R&D.

“A drop of water is the origin of the universe. Naturally, it has the warmth of life and constitutes a rich and diverse organic ecology. It also has a purely visual form, embracing the simplicity and beauty of technology. So we took the drop of water as a symbol and icon and further evolved it and applied it to the Aion models”. The Hyper GT has new proportions compared to previous models. Based on a new dedicated electric platform, the car has a long wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs and large wheels at all four corners.

For this model, the design team worked closely with the aerodynamics team. The result? The Hyper GT achieved a drag coefficient of 0.19, among the best in the world for the segment. The Hyper GT is the world’s first car with a fully enclosed front fascia, equipped with a Wind Blade grille that opens automatically when a certain speed is reached, helping to reduce drag at low speeds.

The wide, full volume of the rear, with a high bridge design and large diameter wheels, gives the Hyper GT a massive road presence and a stance reminiscent of a cheetah ready to pounce. When you reach 80 kilometres per hour the rear spoiler rises to effectively direct the flow and generate downforce as air passes around it, improving handling, cornering and road holding. The front Sky Doors feature synchronised helix dihedral technology to open them, providing a thrilling experience when entering or exiting the Hyper GT.
