Hyundai presented the new Kona: the model, developed from the electric version, boasts larger dimensions and a range of hybrid or zero-emission engines. Its length is now 4,355 mm (175 mm longer than before), with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm, 60 mm longer. The width is 1,825 mm, 25 mm more, and the height has increased by 20 mm to 1,575 mm.
For the new Kona, Hyundai has abandoned the conventional development process – starting with the endothermic version and ending with the EV – and taken the opposite route to create a futuristic exterior from the electric version, accentuating the SUV character of the model to generate sensations of robustness and dynamism.
With a Cx of just 0.27, the Kona has good aerodynamic performance without sacrificing style. Between the front and tailgate, sculpted wheel arches and parametric surfaces define the character of the model, with dynamic chrome lines connecting the beltline to the rear spoiler with integrated brake light. On the EV variant, Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamps and pixel-shaped styling details add a further distinctive touch. Vibrant exterior colours further emphasise the Kona’s design, drawing inspiration from the wide variety of customer lifestyles.
N Line versions boast optional black mirrors, roof and spoiler and a bolder design with wing-like bumpers to emphasise the low stance. With some powertrain differences, the N Line versions feature 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips and silver side skirts. Thanks to the larger dimensions, Hyundai was able to design a larger interior ‘living space’. The driver-focused front end features a large floating horizontal element with two integrated 12.3-inch panoramic displays, underlining the car’s high-tech character.
